Founded in 1963, MAMBO was first conceived to be a museum for a city of approximately 1,500,000 inhabitants. Today, after 60 years, the Colombian capital reaches almost 9 million citizens.
Founded in 1963, MAMBO was first conceived to be a museum for a city of approximately 1,500,000 inhabitants. Today, after 60 years, the Colombian capital reaches almost 9 million citizens.

Like the city, the Museum expanded its mission and ambition. However, its space has remained the same since 1976, housed in a striking Modernist Building designed by Rogelio Salmona—, the renowned Colombian architect.

Today the current building is too small for the museum’s needs. The featured expansion will enable MAMBO to permanently exhibit its collection, have efficient art storage facilities to preserve the artworks, and create a specific educational area.
